SALTWATER BUDDHA: THE FILM

BEGINS PRODUCTION

swb

December 8th marks the Buddhist holiday of Rohatsu, which commemorates the day of the Buddha’s enlightenment. In conjunction with this holiday, Nohoch Productions and Roberto Vezzone Films begins principle-production on Saltwater Buddha: the Film. With a team of award-winning filmmakers and writers, Saltwater Buddha will recreate on film the beautifully crafted tale of coming of age on some of the most stunning and daring surf breaks in the world.

Saltwater Buddha: the Film follows the bestselling surfing memoir Saltwater Buddha and its author Jaimal Yogis as he travels the world’s surf breaks and Zen monasteries in search of enlightenment. Daniel Duane, author of Caught Inside, writes that “… [Jaimal Yogis] has done what every artist and writer strives to do; he has made something beautiful and universal from the particulars of his own life.” Saltwater Buddha: the Film will capture the beauty and excitement of the book while also attracting a wider demographic.

“Our film will be shot in high definition using state of the art equipment with an in-water specialist to capture the essence of the surfing environment,” says director Lara Popyack.  Nohoch Productions also teamed with musician Jim Klar to compose and score the soundtrack of the film. With original music and cinematography, Saltwater Buddha: the Film will portray how surfing and Buddhism became Jaimal’s tools for turning a rebellious youth into a successful life.

The promotion of Saltwater Buddha: the Film will utilize comprehensive traditional and social media marketing campaigns and worldwide film festivals, capitalizing on the grassroots success of the book. Working with award winning marketing and creative agencies we are devoted to an international release and high visibility.

Nohoch Productions and Roberto Vezzone Films have years of combined experience in documentary and feature films that will benefit production costs and imagery.  Saltwater Buddha: the Film has partnered with Save the Waves Coalition and will donate a portion of the proceeds to the organization to help protect surf breaks around the globe. Holly Beck with Suave Dulce, Las Olas Surfboards, an environmentally friendly surfboard shaper, SURF STRONGER, and the band Nine Pound Shadow are also partners and sponsors. Saltwater Buddha: the Film will partner with other organizations that believe in preserving the environment. Nohoch Productions and Roberto Vezzone Films are currently looking for continued product and financial partners for Saltwater Buddha: the Film.

Saltwater Buddha: the Film is scheduled for release in the Summer of 2010. For more information, visit the filmSaltwater Buddha movie website at http://www.saltwaterbuddha.org.
